Cisco ATA - Installation Instructions

Cisco ATABelow you will find installation instructions for the CISCO ATA broadband phone adapter. For Installation instructions of other broadband phone adapters click here.

Setting up your ATA to work with iConnectHere is easy! The following instructions will help you set up your adaptor in a simple Step-by-Step method.

Introduction: How should the broadband adaptor connect to your network?

You must have a broadband Internet connection and the Cisco ATA. Since the adaptor works independently of your computer, there are no requirements at all for your operating systems.

In some case you will not necessarily need a router if your cable modem has 2 Ethernet ports and supports NAT.
Routers and Broadband service are not sold through iConnectHere. Routers are generally available from most retail or online stores.

Please follow the following step-by-step guide below to setup your Cisco ATA to work with iConnectHere Broadband Phone Service.

Step 1: Connect the ATA to your Broadband connection

Use this illustration of the back of the ATA to connect it to your network.

  1. Phone 1 - plug your analog telephone cord in here to work with your iConnectHere account.
  2. Phone 2 - if you are using two accounts with your ATA, plug a second analog phone cord in here for your second account.
  3. Ethernet Port - use an Ethernet cable to connect your ATA to your router or Internet connection.
  4. Power connection - Connect the power to your ATA.

Step 2: Verify & Configure your IP address

A. At first we would need to verify that your ATA would acquire an IP automatically if your network supports DHCP.

If your network utilizes a DHCP Server to assign IP Addresses to network devices, or if you are connecting the ATA to a home router such as a Linksys or Netgear router, please do the following:

  1. Pick up the telephone again and press the button on top of the ATA. You will hear a voice prompt that says "Configuration Menu".
  2. Press the keys 2 0 # on your analog phone.
  3. Then press 1 # to enable DHCP.
  4. Then press 3 to save your configuration settings.

B. Next, we would need to verify that your ATA has a valid IP Address, Please be prepared with pen and paper and proceed with the following:

  1. Pick up the phone connected to Port 1 of the ATA and press the button on the top of the ATA. You will hear a voice prompt saying "Configuration Menu".
  2. Key in 8 0 # and write down the IP address read back to you.

If you received a valid IP address you may proceed to Step 3.

If the IP is 0.0.0.0, your ATA does not have a valid IP address. In this case you need to:

  1. Hang up the phone, unplug and re-plug your ATA power cord.
  2. Wait 2 minutes, and check the IP again.
  3. If you still get 0.0.0.0, there can be three reasons for this:
    1. Your DHCP Server is not assigning an IP address to the ATA (in which case you should contact your network administrator or ISP for assistance).
    2. Your network does not have a DHCP server (in which case you should proceed to configuring your IP manually using a Static IP configuration).

    3. You have bought a Static IP (in which case you should proceed to configuring your IP manually using a Static IP configuration).

Step 3: Prepare you device to work with ICH network

A. Upgrade your ATA In order to utilize the iConnectHere broadband service with an ATA, you must be running Version 3.1.0 atasip (Build 040211a) or higher of the iConnectHere software.

You can check what version and build you are running by dialing two codes from your phone.

  1. Pick up the phone and press the button on the ATA. You will hear the prompt say "Configuration Menu".
  2. To check the version number of your firmware, dial "123#" on your telephone.
  3. Hang up the telephone.
  4. Pick up the phone and press the button on the ATA. You will hear the prompt say "Configuration Menu".
  5. To check the build number, press the button on the top of the ATA and dial "123123#".

If you are already using the above version, you may proceed to section B. Please follow the instructions below if you need to upgrade your software.

  5. Your software has been upgraded successfully. To read the software version again, press 123#.

If the upgrade fails, verify that your ATA is properly configured on your home network and check your ISP connectivity.

B. Configure your ATA In order to allow an automatic configuration of your adaptor, you will need to adjust a few fields in the ATA's configuration page.

First make sure you have the following information from your Internet Service Provider or IT Administrator:

  1. Open your configuration page. To do so, type the following into your web browser: http://aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd/dev where "aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd" represents the IP address of your ATA.
  2. Then, on your ATA configuration page, make the necessary changes to the following fields so they contain the values indicated below. (Please note that your configuration page may not contain all of the fields that are listed. Make sure to update the fields that you do have on your configuration page as outlined.)
